Took my 2006 KJ Ltd hunting this past weekend. Went to Tejon [CA -- off I-5] to an area that I had previously wheeled with my TJ. My off roading interest is limited to just getting there, not testing out the limits of my vehicle. Lots of 4 Lo pulling up and down seriously unimproved roads. Plus totally off road (no roads) down into a scary canyon and back up. Went places in the KJ that I had previously not taken the TJ. Bottom line: I was amazed at how well the KJ did. No problems at all. My companions were really surprised. At the bottom of this canyon, I retreived a 200 pound wild pig plus put three other hikers, their gear, and me and my gear into the KJ and gingerly 4-Lo'd outta there with no problems at all except for one wheel in the air a couple of times. I was really impressed. Only issue is insufficient clearance (my KJ is stock) but careful driving and it's ok. Thank god for skid plates though.

Welcome to the "hidden world" of the KJ. Alot of non-beleivers and under-estimators of the KJ out there. It can do anything the Wrangler can do....sometimes better, I've had the satisfaction of not getting stuck where TJ's have....but the downside is you end up pulling alot of people out from being stuck!

If you go to your spot again try and get some pictures....sounds like a cool spot. I'm not into wheeling to test my gear either....I'm in an expedition group...we drive for distance and that usually takes us to non-road areas....so the goal is to get through the rough spots and carry on with the trip.
