Post subject:  cuppped out tires
I lifted my liberty with the daystar 2.5" kit, and now the local shop says that they can't align my wheels just right. Close, but they say it is physically impossible to get it perfect. Now, several thousand miles later, my Goodyear mtr's are "cupped out," show very uneven wear, and make a horrible thumping sound as I drive.
What gives?
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. Have it alligned with the stock tires. If you don't have a set you should look into picking up a used set or borrowing a set from a friend. It will be easier on the shop and your tires. :wink:

At 26-28 psi, I had a decent ride on all types of terrain, and the MTRs will still last around 50-60K mi. These days, I run at 32 psi because of more highway miles. My advice may be skewed, though, as I'm a very different driver than most folks.

As for the lift/alignment, I also had trouble. The difference was that I already had 245/75 MTRs on before I got lifted. For me, the only issue turned out to be that I was pigeon-toed. My camber & caster had not been affected.

My MTR's make a horrible noise too from 25-35 mph. I dont think it has anything to do with wear. I rotate my tires at every oil change(approx 4,000 miles). I have run 33 lbs in the tires since I put them on around 13,000 miles ago and they are wearing very nicely. They also should be able to align the front end with any type of wheel or tire. I had mine aligned after the lift with the MTR's on with no problems. Did you try taking it to a different shop?

Hope things work out for you as the MTR's look awesome of a KJ.

How you rotate your tires makes a difference on cupping. Cross rotating tires will keep them from cupping.

geez, i run at about 39 psi cold. then again, i'm running bfg mtr's.

the cross-camber gets way out of whack; go somewhere that has a 3 year deal in which you can keep taking it back. they'll learn how to fix it.

I had BFG AT TA 265/75/16's on my last truck and I found that they got out of balance very easily. It doesn't make sence that there is nobody that can fix your alignment issue though.

I run my Goodyear MTRs at 40 psi cold, have 10,000 miles on them, have done two front-to-back rotations and have no cupping. I had a wheel alignment 15,000 ago and she's always run true.
