A while back I backed into a phone pole and bent in the tailgate. I did a ghetto job of pulling it back out enough so the spare cleared the back glass, but apparently things were weakened, so after a couple of years the spare fell off. Nobody got hit or hurt, but the car behind had some headlight damage.

Anyway, I suppose it should be repaired properly. What's likely to be lower cost, replacing the gate (if I can get the proper color), or taking it to a body shop and have them pull it out and repaint it properly?

having just been through this i can tell you that having a place repair it will be much cheaper. I mean if you were lucky enough to find one in a junk yard without the same damage as yours and in the same color then you may get it for cheaper, but the odds of that are really high. Many shops didn't want to bother repairing mine, but the one that did do it did an amazing job...better than i thought was possible.

What's to say that if you find one in the wrecking yard "The same colour" as yours that the likely hood
that the colours will actually match?
Always close and always noticeably different!
