Post subject:  Line-X my rock rails?

I have some rust building on my rock rails... wondering if it is worth it to Line-X them? Does anyone know how much weight this will add to my KJ (influencing gas mileage)? Thanks!

If they are rusting, lineXing them would probably be a bad idea since it would trap moisture in and wouldn't stop the rust from spreading. If you took the off and sanded them first, that would work pretty well.

You would not even notice the weight difference (probably 20 lbs at the most)

Sand, prime, repaint. Repeat after every few trail rides. Line-X will only be tougher to touch up and will still scrape off on the rocks.

I did mine and another guys. Once they cure, they cant be chipped.

(the key is not to scratch them before they cure..... like I did  )

I had the same problem up here. I sanded down the rust and got them Line-X'd. If I could do it again I'd take the bars off so they can do a better job. I touch them up now with Bullet rust proof paint stuff.

Weight? I think mud sticking to the side of you Jeep will weigh more!

All I can say is Galvanize it.

Cost is reasonable...never have to worry about rust ever again.

I did mine with line-x and they look really good, they can be touched up with that bedliner that comes in a spray can.Plus they look really cool. I did my brushguard with line-x too.

When mine get rusty I take them out on the AZ rocks and scrape off the rust, good as new again!
