struts not even???

I received my Frankenlift this last Wednesday night. Woo Hoo!
So, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning opening up the boxes of stuff and laying it out on the living room floor to check it all out. After looking at it for a while it hit me that the two struts are not even. The metal plate that the spring rests on is higher on one of the struts. At first I though that it was suppose to be that way, but now I'm starting to wonder and the good folks at All J's are off wheeling for the weekend and I'm itching to start installing.
So, is this OK or do I have a bad strut or something? My wrenching hand is starting to twitch.

i wouldn't use it--poor quality control. the one spring is compressed more than the other. send it back!

The springs look fine, but with the different hieght of the clevis tabs on the shaft, I would agree with Neal, it would be better to wait on this one.

no, the clevis tabs are the same on the strut--the plate for the bottom of the spring is welded at a different height

Ahh, That side of the jeep will be alittle higher. Your cv angle will be maxed out anyway, couldnt hurt it anymore.

Did you call All J and ask them about the issue? I think they deserve the opportunity to remedy the problem before posting on here.

I dont think anybody who was dealt with them would doubt that they would remedy it, but c'mon, implying he shouldnt post before speaking to them?? He's got a legit question and is itching to install his lift. They are unavailable! What better than turn to this forum for an opinion?

Looks like the Rancho strut was welded in the wrong place. Just place q call to Quinn or Heather and they will replace it for sure. It is not going to be an issue. They have great customer service and they always stand behind their products. Be sure to let them know if it is a left or a right strut so they will know what to send. later...Clint

Its not like its their fault anyway, they dont weld the struts together. I'm sure if they would of seen this they wouldnt of sent it, its just something rancho messed up. No biggie.

Thanks for all the input. I'll give them a call first thing Monday morning.
Just for the record - I was more asleep than awake, as well as excited about getting the lift, when I wrote that post. And, Probably didn't think about how this question might be interpreted. The All J guys are good people by reputation and personal experience and my question was in no way meant to infer otherwise. My apologies where appropriate.

Actually, the good folks at All J were working all weekend--we normally don't, but there's no Jeeping for us :cry:

while our customers are waiting on their anticipated orders and installs) Please call us or email us at info@boulderbars.com and we will take care of the strut and get another out to replace it right away.

We appologize for missing seeing that before it was sent out -- I'm gonna go kick some bu tay this morning out in the shop !!

Thanks to Tom for posting a picture of the defective strut and to Mike for emailing me pictures of good struts, I am posting you a comparision photo for you all to look at. It should help you identify if you received a defective strut. The only defective strut that we know of as of today seems to have been the one Tom got. However, we want to make sure there aren't any others out there -- only shipments of Frankenlifts from 2/20/06 to 2/27/06 may have been affected. Shipments prior to 2/20/06 received the struts that were already in our warehouse and not from the new batch of struts that were defective.

A word of caution: If anyone is planning on buying struts from ANY vendor across the US, please be cautious. Rancho has not yet informed all vendors of this problem and you may be buying a set of defective struts. Just today we refused another shipment of these struts from 4wheel parts, because after Quinn opened the boxes, all of the struts in the shipment were also defective. Dang!

How do you tell if you have two defective struts side by side? I can see how having one good and one bad will throw things off. Is the length the only thing defective?
