I just wanted to post a few pictures to show that you can put a Mopar Tranny Skid from a newer model on an 02. I am sure some of you have done this already, but I wanted to post this for those who may have been wondering.
Image
The tranny skid is sandwiched under the engine skid. Since there were no slots in the crossmember for the tabs on the skid we cut them off.

My Jeep dealer had these spacers laying around. They said they were skid plate spacers for a Wrangler. We used these to give the exhaust the clearance it needed. We drilled a new hole in the crossmember and put in a well nut to thread into.

Here is the exhaust clearance

Strange, without the spacers I would have had to bend the exhaust pipe for the skid plate to fit because the skid plate sure isn't bending

Why the spacers?

My 02 don't need them, You just hit the pan with a hammer in the exhuast pipe spot...It will bend.

What grill gaurd is that you are running??

I will talk to my guy at Jeep about that, I really didn't think about trying to bend that skid. The Grill Guard is by Aries, I had it sprayed at Line-X so it won't rust, it looks cool too.

I had to use spacers also but nothing that big. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 an inch... It probably needs more though, sometimes in rare occasions in reverse the exhaust and the pipe rattle together but normal driving no problems...

Yes, that grill gaurd does look cool.

Scratch the skid plate under the exhaust area with a screwdriver, take it down and bang hell out of it with a sledge in that spot, put it back up without spacers.
