You dont need limiting straps on the KJ. Longer bump stops do just fine.

ditto go with the frankenlift if you got the money otherwise go with Rustys.
I have personal experiance with the Frankenlift and it is a dream come true. It rides better than stock, lets me keep up and pass my buddys TJ w/ 4in's and 33's, sits up high enough for me to blind the pocket rocket crowd, changes the attitude of the KJ. I could go on and on as many more with the Frankenlift. The same could be said of Rustys by probally more ppl as Rustys lift has been on the market longer I belive. Either way you go just search these boards and you will hear the accolades over and over for both. Oh yea and the Frankenlift flexes like Hulk Hogan in the 80's. Just me and my 2 cents

Why? I'm also in the market for a lift, for my wife's (*wink*wink) KJ. What I'm interested in is what are the benefits and drawbacks of each lift. Which lift has the best articulation, proven with ramp numbers not somebodies opinion. Perusing this site I've witnessed many brand snobs, but no factual knowledge of why one lift is preferable to another. Oh, one more thing, I'm not interested in any poly or spacer kits.

Basically I'm between the Frankenlift and the Rockfather2, although today I did talk to a friend of mine in the industry who is researching a Liberty kit above 2.5" for me.

Also, I'm looking at MT radial Baja Claws in 31x10.50x15 on Rock Crawlers. I've seen people denote backspacing in the 3.750" range and 4.000".

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I'd like some valid information also.

Oh yeah, I'm new here. Thanks in advance.

First off welcome!

The only kit over 2.5" is the 7-UP kit. If you get that kit, it will kill your truck. Do a search on 7UP or 7-UP and see all the issues. As far as numbers, I have not been on an RTI ramp since installing my Frankenlift, but it is the best lift out there as proven by the KJ West guys that have been running it for a long time, with Rusty's being the best bang for your buck. You might be hard pressed to get RTI numbers, but there might be a few that have them. Those tires should fit with some rubbing and trimming, but be careful on what 15" rims you get, as only a few will fit, including Craiger Soft 8's off the top of my head. That's my $0.02...

Just a quickie: I was born in Elizabeth City, NC. Okay, That is all.......for that.

Lifts: Greatest articulation means nothing if the lift is crap. PROVEN LIFTS that have been out on the trails getting banged up and surviving, that is the info you need. A useless ramp test means nothing out on the trail.

Skyjacker, Rusty's, and Frankenlift are the three most common lifts and all have been proven out on the trails. A few have the RockFather. When we mention our lifts, it is from true experience because we use them.

I do believe a company has come out with a 3" lift but not proven out on the trail. Your dealer may also void all warranty for the suspension with a 3" lift. Some are real a-holes and try to void non-lifted suspensions if they can see that you took it off-road. Check with dealers in your area before getting a lift. Some are good, some are bad.

Hey Joe, I'm not new to this, just new to KJs.

This rig maxxed out a ramp and does pretty well off road also:

I just want some reasonable advice and articulation ramps can show what works in a side by side comparison. Sure getting beat on the trail shows longevity.........I just don't want some show suspension that doesn't work.

Skyjacker advised me to use limiting straps if I intend to REALLY offf road because
several of their customers have had the axle pull out of the cup . The limiting straps
would therefore be to prevent over extension downward, not on the up where a bump
stop replacement prevents contact. A longer bump stop at the top I could see helping
when a larger tire diameter is used .

I believe it was on boulderbars.com that mentioned lifts over 2.5" destroy the KJ's IFS (not including the 7-UP), this was backed up with a paragraph about previous tests that went badly.
