Hey Guys, going crazy trying to get this noise fixed.

04 Lib Sport 6cyl
OME Lift
74k miles
4x4

There is a noise in the front end that is caused by the slightest bump in the road, is not affected by rpm or speed. Thought it could be the sway bar bushings but i just replaced them and it didn't help. It is a hard enough clunk that you can feel it in your feet. I was hitting things underneath to try to replicate and the loose area seems to be the front differential area on the pass side. if I hit with my palm on the front diff or the pass half shaft it makes the noise. I assumed it was the halfshaft but now am second guessing myself that it could be a mount possibly. any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get this fixed before a camping trip this weekend. Thanks!!!

I'm no good source of information, but I can tell you that when I went through this same hellish noise yesterday, it ended up being a loose mount on the UCA. Jack the front end up where the wheels are off the ground and you can roughly shake the UCA and other front end components and check for anything loose.

Ok so I bought a new half shaft and when going to replace it i noticed that the current half shaft is not fully set! Not sure if this is the oem one or not but I cannot get it to set to the intermediate shaft. It almost seems like it is too short?

Thanks for the incite. At this point I wish it was the UCA. I cannot get this half shaft to set at all. Really hate to have to remove it just to try to set it again

Check your upper ball joints...I had a similar situation and that's what my issue turned out to be.

Thanks, i had originally thought that but it is the half shaft. It is not seating securely in the intermediate shaft. cannot figure out what the deal is. Does anyone know if there is a clip or anything in there that is supposed to hold it?

If the CV is an aftermarket from Autozone etc then its too short and won't seat right
I'd almost replace it with a NAPA remanned so its right and go from there

is there a clip inside that holds it? As far as I know it is the stock one, unless it was replaced at low miles. But the weird thing is that it has been fine for the past 20k miles that I have owned it.
