Post subject: | NEW TIRES and some concerns |
Hey yall, I went down to Discount Tire and after a long battle of fit vs style I have come down to the following: 4 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac LT245/75/R16 Tires 4 MB Wheels Chaos 5 16x8.5 5-114.3 18MTB Wheels The people at Discount Tire said that they would have to trim a little bit of the wheel well, which I was ok with, but they seem to think it will fit fine. My concern is does trimming the wheel well cause any damage, how does the fit sound, anybody with similar setup how do you like them, did they rub. My Liberty is not lifted so full stock. The only saving grace is the new Rancho RS9000 shocks and struts. Any suggestions before these get installed Tuesday? Thanks everyone! |

That tire size will not fit on an unlifted Liberty. Some on here have tried but there is really NO room for flex. You'll rub when turning sharp corners and over bumps. It will get worse as your jeep ages and the springs sag. I wouldn't do it, even if they offer to trim. You'll also risk a hack job inside your wheel wells. |

Not to mention 16x8.5 rims will cause all sorts of rubbing no matter if your lifted or not. |

x2 I have the same size tire on stock wheels with a lift and I still had trimming to do, I wouldn't recommend it without a lift and I don't think most people would. |

My suggestion would be lift it first then tires especially if you plan on even trying either one of those sizes. If you have the Ranchos you already have a good start now just some OME springs and some isolates and conduit nuts. |

Anyone know what the stock or max is for tire size. |

245/70 R16 works fine, no rubbing, (and looks much better) on my saggy-spring CRD. It's the max unlifted size. Here's a photo thread with some pics of that size mounted: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=52636 ![]() |

I guess I'll see how the fit is but does anyone have anything to say about that? |

If you were closer I would give you my CRD springs (heavier spring rate) meaning a little possible gain in lift. If you wanted to pay for shipping I will send them. Or you could grab a few rear isolators ($15 a piece) and a Clevis lift up front ($6) both can be installed in your yard for cheap with less then 30 dollars in cost and your time and hand tools. |

245/70R16's on the stock rims is as big as you can go unlifted. If using aftermarket rims it's a major guessing game depending on back spacing. |

Read a little closer he has them on the stock rims the 8.5s were thought about and then taken out of the equation. |
