Post subject:  EVER SEEN THIS?!?!?!?! Help

This is my first attempt to post pictures so I hope it works. I have no idea how this happened but I was backing out of the driveway yesterday morning and this happened. I don't know if my wife hit something the night before.

Could someone who has seen this before help me out? Do I need to replace the whole rack? I couldn't find anyone who has had this problem through searches.

Get both inners and new outers also.Don't forget you will need a alignment and expect the worst that the rack maybe FUBAR'd.

Thanks

I just had my inners outers and upper and lower ball joints replaced about 5 months and 3k mi ago. maybe I just bought cheap parts.

I got the outer off fine here is whats left of the inner. I tried getting an adjustable wrench in there and just cant get it. I even bought the Harbor freight tool that was 50 buck to do this and it doesn't fit over the cup. I did turn the steering wheel to full lock trying to get enough room but this thing is really on there and I cant get a good grip on it.

Any tricks?

Can you make one of these without the square hole [driver]?

Why?

That 3/8" square drive is needed to loosen the inner tie rod end and tighten it.You clamp it on the inner tie rod end and insert a 3/8" drive breaker bar(and extension if needed),loosen the tie rod end and remove the tool, then unscrew the tie rod end.

Thanks for the help. I will try to find one of those. I got new moog outers for bothsides. Im going to have to wait a few weeks until I fan replace the outers.

I also notice that two bushings in the top of my steering rack are non existent. Got moog replacements but it looks like I need to take the rack out to do the work. Any way around this?

If you are a gasser there is a write up by ihatemybike on how to get the steering rack out without having to remove so much equipment. But if you have a CRD it is going to be a long day for you.
