| Post subject: | Front drive shaft vibration |
So i had a weird vibration around the 40-60 m/h range. Would not be apparent below those speeds and would get much better above them. Anyway, so I first expected rear drive shaft UJ. Had those replaced, no real difference. Then I removed the front drive shaft, and its at least 90% better. but still there. So my question, is this a faulty front drive shaft CV, or is removing the weight of the driveshaft just minimizing the effect of what ever the problem really is. The CV looks and feels fine, no tears or cuts. Is there anything that the front driveshaft attaches to that could be at fault?

They are a know problem. Usually the boot gets ripped and it's all downhill from there. You can replace just the cv portion of the driveshaft for considerably less than the whole thing would cost. Takes about twenty minutes to do yourself. I'd say if the vibes stopped when you took it off, that's your problem, but since they didnt... Could also be passenger side cv/intermediate shaft. I went down the same path as you last year- replaced u joints on rear DS, then replaced cv on front DS, then had my clutch replaced at the dealers suggestion, and after all that, it turned out to be the passenger side cv/intermediate shaft. At least I shouldn't have to do the driveshafts or clutch for another 150,000 miles... |

Thanks Anyway of testing the sideshafts on the vehicle? Could that also be related to an intermittent throbbing of the brake peddle? I had them skimmed and whilst better still some feedback. |

I am sure a good drive shaft shop could test the front intermediate shaft for a fee but here in the states it is just cheaper to replace it but to you i bet it is worth test. But if the boot on your front drive shaft is gone that is where I would start. |

I'm getting some weird vibrations over 80 MPH. Under that, nothing at all. Between 80-85 MPH they're mild vibes, over 85 and it feels like the Jeep is going to rattle apart. Does this sound like the same problem or am I experiencing something different? |

Does this sound like the same problem or am I experiencing something different? No, mine gets better as you speed up. I'm really not sure what to do about it, took it to a local CV shop and the mech said the CV on the shaft looked 100% to him. Got the same vibration again on the highway again the other day, with front shaft removed. I know this stretch of highway does have a corrugated feel to it from all the trucks running on it. Almost like the Jeep just gets into a natural resonance. Not sure if I should just go ahead and get the front shaft CV changed and balanced and see if anything happens... |

I am getting very similar vibes thought it was the cv cause it has a tear but when i took the front driveway out still had the vibes. I was thinking it was my tcase has a stretch or bad bearing. |

Check your brake rotors especially if it comes in at a certain speed because if they are just slightly warped you wont feel it unless you have to brake really hard. |

Did you ever figure this out ? Sorry to being back such an old post. But I'm having same issue. Replaced rear joints , had the shaft balanced and cleaned up with no difference |
