I was looking to build some cross bars like so many others.
I wanted something quick and easy to put on and take off, if this has been used before my apologies.

What I found at Home Depot was called Strut Channel
Image

It was 15.57 for a 10 foot section.

I used 1 1/4 inch strut pipe clamps.
1.82 each x4

Just cut the Channel to the length you want, and clamp them on.

I also painted them gloss black to match the Jeep and added some foam tape to the inside of the clamp to avoid scratching the roof rack.
They clamp on nice and tight with no movement and all that is needed is a screw driver.
Hope this helps someone.
Brian

Do you pics?
I think I figured it out you have a KJ so you used the clamp to the KJ rails, which are more round then the KK's.

I'm interested in how loud the bars are at highway speed. Some people have said in other threads that the strut channel is noisier than round conduit, but I've never seen the type you got that doesn't have holes the entire length. The picture of the material looks clean.

There is some noise at 45mph, but to be honest it is not a concern to me.
I could not see paying the price for "quiet" ones from jeep LOL

How did the new bars hold up with the weight & wind resistance of the rooftop carrier?
Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!

Do you by chance have part numbers? Looking online, I only see the type with holes down the entire length. Thanks!

Hey I bought the same ones but when I tightened the clamp to the roof bar it wasn't tight the cross bar still moved

Where was the movement and in which direction? If it was sliding front-to-back, try putting some pipe insulation (the heavy foam kind) around the bar before you clamp it down. (Blue Location) If it's rattling up and down you might need a shim over the runners on the Jeep (I'm thinking the pipe insulation would work here, too) to fill the gap between the crossbar and the runners. (Red location)

PS: I have not done this to my Jeep (yet) but did a lot of work with conduit and struts back in the day. Vibration in buildings where they were used often caused them to vibrate and rattle a little. One (or both) of the methods I mentioned would take care of it.

i used 1 inch aluminum pipe from lowes and u bolts. total was $22 and change. not the most beautiful thing ever, but it's not too bad for $22. oh, and i spray painted it with bedliner in a can. and then put a basket rack on it. :JEEPIN:
