Hopefully this is the right board for this type of question... I havent been back here for quite some time. Anyways. We have a 2005 KJ 3.7l 4x4 with a constant check engine light. Took it to the stealership a while back. They did a smoke check and informed me that they would need to replace the pump and purge solinoid for the emissions system. I have since replaced both of these components and still have the check engine light. I can unhook the battery and reset everything and the light will go off... sometimes it will be off for hours or even days but always comes back... I have a feeling that there is a leak somewhere in the system but have no idea how to check for that. Not trying to take it back to the dealership but I have a feeling that I might need to. I dont particularly care about the emissions system, I am more concerned with geting the CEL off so I dont miss a fault that is more important. Any help you might be able to give me is greatly appreciated!

Tim

If you haven't tried this yet, buy a new gas cap. I had a fault like this on my 2000 XJ and the dealer did the smoke test and the whole works costing hundreds, and it just ended up being an $18 part: the gas cap.

There's also a little rubber hose back by the fuel tank that cracks.

I have tried the gas cap and that wasnt the problem... As far as the hose near the tank that cracks... is this one of the hoses going to the emissiions pump up and behind the tank or another one?

Yep, goes to the emissions stuff.

From a post on another Kj board: #4 fixed his P0442 (cracked at the end)

That is what caused mine, and the oxygen sensors. I also started using 89 unleaded fuel and never came back.
