| Post subject: | clinking sound in 4wd |
Greetings, I had the chance to get the Jeep muddy this weekend but I'm afraid I may have damaged something. I now notice a clinking sound coming from the driver's side front wheel area (or somewhere around there) while in 4wd. It happens when I'm moving. At first it was only happening when turning the wheel, but now it is even happening when driving straight, though not every time. And yes, it even happens when going through slick mud not dry ground. It goes away when I take it out of 4wd. Also, 4wd has gotten slower to disengage in the past few months too. I'm not really sure what this is, but I'm a bit worried. I actually first noticed the sound about a year ago when I was in dry grass and turned the wheel sharply to turn. That was the last time it made that sound before this past weekend. Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. For reference, my Jeep is an '04 KJ V6 with the part time Hi and Lo only t-case. Thanks, Jordan |

Front driveshaft CV Joint, transfer case side more than likely. Check condition of the rubber boot. |

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean the type of issue addressed in this thread? http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-ch ... ead-47161/ I'm hoping to get out of work early enough to go climb under the jeep and check the condition. -jordan |
