| Post subject: | idler pulley |
Hi everyone, I noticed some noise under the hood last week and discovered my idler pulley was going bad. I ordered a new one from Rockauto and they sent me a grooved pulley I need a smooth one. I went to Advance and another local parts store and they claim the tensioner pulley is smooth and the idler pulley is grooved, which is the opposite of mine. I bought the smooth tensioner pulley, and it was 1/2" bigger and will not fit. can anyone give me the correct part number for the smooth idler pulley? thanks |

Don't have the number right here BUT you should be replacing the whole tensioner along with the pulleys anyways. Comes ready to install with both pulleys on it. Tensioner gets weak over time |

Not sure about your engine, but it should be easy to figure out from the serp belt routing...If it touches the pulley on the inside, it'll be grooved. If it touches on the back, it'll be smooth. If you already knew that and just wanted part numbers, sorry 'bout that. I wasn't sure Dan |

I was not really wanting to do that, as mine has plenty of tension left in it. I have looked at rockauto again and found one that says smooth, but now I am a little gun-shy and don't want to buy another part I don't need |

I've already got the grooved one. it's not worth sending back, so I can change that one too. |
