Has anyone else had a problem with their Moog K3199's? I bought mine at the end of February and installed them when I did my lift, and yes I greased them at install. I haven't really kept tabs on how many miles I've put on them, but it's less than 10k miles. I grease them every oil change using Mobil 1 synthetic. I had my front end apart today troubleshooting a noise I was hearing, and ended up pulling the knuckles to get the cv's out. I decided to see how the ball joints were holding up. No up/down play, but when grabbing the stud and moving it around I could feel it binding pretty bad like something was stopping it. With the stud straight up it would move 1/4" or so in any direction normally, then stop. With a little force you'd feel a pop, the stud moved but felt very rough (grinding feeling). Definitely not normal, and I never had one feel like that before. I was on stock tires until the past 200 miles or so, so it wasn't seeing much stress. Luckily they will be replaced under warranty. They arent making any noises, just not moving freely. Has anyone seen them fail prematurely before? |

I'm pretty sure mine wasn't from installation error, unless there is some crazy KJ specific step I didn't do. I've done alot of bj replacements and have never had an installation error. The only thing I'm aware of that can go wrong in a bj replacement is pressing them in with your adapter in the center of the bj (crushing the thin metal where the zerk goes) or the bj not being fully seated. I checked them when I replaced my intermediate shaft and cv axles about 3,500 miles ago and they were fine. |
