My front brakes will bind when backing out with the wheels turned. It is not a problem when in drive except for a pad to rotor scraping sound when turning the wheels every now and then. Does anyone have a clue what is going on? The outer pad is digging into the rotor on the outer edge yet the edge closer to the hub looks good. It looks like the caliper might be flexing in toward the vehicle and causing the pad to dig into the upper edge of rotor.

Sounds to me like your pads are dragging and binding on the disc.

I would ensure that all bolts securing the caliper to the hub, the pad carrier to the caliper, etc are all installed straight and torqued to spec. Make sure you have some lube around the brake pad tabs to allow them to slide in and out within the carrier.

I'd also suggest making sure you don't have any rust buildup underneath the pad slider tabs (the thin pieces of steel around the pad tabs). Clean it up with a needle scaler or a wire brush, reintall everything with a light coating of sil-glyde or similar.

edit: also check to see that your caliper brake piston is working properly, if it has had lots of wear, or a leaking seal, it could be stuck too.

Thanks for the info. I will check and lube to see what happens.

Any luck?

Also thought of the caliper slide pins - I haven't personally had mine apart, but I believe the Liberty front caliper is a sliding design. You should be able to re-lube those pins also - look for the black 'accordion boot' looking thing around the base of the pin(s).
