| Post subject: | Battery drain from "Supplemental" trailer wiring on '05-'06? |
My jeep did not come with any wiring from the factory, so I added the 7 Pin harness in the back and routed the supplementary harness, which runs from the battery all the way to the trunk, to supply the 12V power to the 7 pin. When I installed it, I noticed there was a discrepancy between the instructions and my jeep: The instructions want you to plug the supplemental harness in-line with the CIGARETTE lighter but my jeep is a later model KJ and does not have this, only a Power outlet. The issue is that the cigarette lighter was supposed to be used to switch trailer wiring on and off with the ignition. The power outlet in these cars are always on as you probably know. This means that the trailer wiring is always active. If you have installed the 7 pin harness, you know that there is a electronic module that is installed in the trunk which contains a solenoid which is supposed to be controlled by the power going to the cigarette lighter. When you turn off the car, the cigarette lighter turns off and therefore the solenoid is disengaged. My question is: People with the 7 pin supplemental wiring harness in KJ's that only have a power plug(04-07?), do you have a slow drain on your battery, and could you trace it back to the trailer wiring? Thanks for your help! |
