I just replaced the front diff w/used one,3 of 4 ball joints,a strut and brakes on my '02 Jeep KJ. Took it out for the test drive. A little vibration but it's lifted and has 190K miles on it and been doing that for awhile so no worries.

Well I shift it into 4H and it begins making a squeaking/ringing kind of noise at road speed. Everything works but the noise definitely is not good. When I return to 2H it goes away.

The question is front driveshaft? Transfer case? It's been sitting for 4 or 5 months while I rode the motorcycle and saved the cash to get parts for the work. Well I kinda need it now and there's already snow on the ground. Suggestions?

Check driveshaft. If boots gone, replace with new joints. No need to replace whole shaft. Mine was making that noise last winter, replaced transfer case end of driveshaft, not there anymore.

Thanks. I was just under there for 2 weeks fixing the dam thing. Should have noticed it. Last night drove about 40 miles for a checkout run. Was riding along a road next to a creek with a retaining wall. Slowed down and opened the window. It makes the noise in 2WD but very faint but soon as it's under a heavy load it gets louder. Where'd ya get the parts?

I can't remember now, but it was either Carquest or rockauto.com. Only two places I buy stuff from. It was less than 100 bucks. Should have some decent snap ring pliers too.

They're about $115 shipped from Rock Auto. I've done several of these, and stocked them at the dealership I used to work at since Chrysler wants to sell you a discontinued driveshaft for 1200.

Wow they are friggin expensive Rock Auto another reason why I don't deal with them
I stock them as well but last two I got were 57 shipped each. They seem to last as long or more than most
