| Post subject: | drive train noise...please help |
Hey guys, All of a sudden while driving home on the highway my Jeep started making a rumbling/growling/humming sound. I've noticed its far more pronounced in 4x4 (though still slightly present in 2HI) and gets much louder during acceleration. It's not really noticeable until about 50-60km/h. I can feel a slight vibration in the transfer case handle and pedals, not really in the steering wheel. I rebuilt both ends of my front driveshaft a few months ago and I can't see anything visibly wrong (torn boots, etc.) under the vehicle. I'm pretty worried since I am waiting to put in a brand new OME lift and I could have a big transfer case or differential problem here. How can I find out what it is for sure? Thanks |

Wheel bearings,u-joint rear axle, loose lug nutz and check the bolts on the front driveshaft would be where I'd look. What shape are the CV shafts in? Mine did something like that and it was actually the half shaft on the right side of the front diff. |
