Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

It seems my KJ's brains got scrambled somehow and I was looking for some input to make sure I'm on the right track before I try and fix this...anyway sorry if this is a long one.

I was backing out of my driveway a few mornings ago and all of a sudden the ESP/BAS, Traction & ABS comes on. This has happened to me before - usually a restart makes it all go away. But not this time. I took it to the dealer thinking this was going to be a wheel speed sensor so I just wanted them to diagnose it for me, since I don't have a starscan. The guy comes back after about 45 minutes and says he isn't going to charge me, because they are going to have to rip in to it to find the problem. He says they pulled 4 codes off of it, including a WSS erratic code, no WSS reading, and some comparitor codes. He tells me they basically aren't getting a good reading from 3 of my 4 wheel speed sensors.

I take it home, and I figure there is no way three sensors all died at once, so I start looking in to it. I ran through the procedures for the codes I got but I kind of hit a dead end. I can check for supply at the WSS connector on all four wheels and it is there, but when I probe the other wire I have a ground on all four. The thing is, if I disconnect the main harness at the ABS module and check for grounds they are gone. I also performed a loop test on each pair of wires going to all my sensors, and they all check out great. No grounds, zero resistance. At this point the manual tells you to repair the wires...but my wires are fine. With the harness off, I checked what I could - all the supply voltages going to the module and the grounds for the module are fine. Everything checks out. If I start the vehicle with the module disconnected, it throws a CAN bus code for communications between the ECM and ABS module. So I'm pretty sure my CAN communications are okay.

To sum, all my WSS signals are ground when the ABS module is connected. When I disconnected the ABS module, the grounds go away. So at this point I guess it is safe to say my ABS module is hooped? Luckily I found a salvage yard around here that had a 2006 KJ and I yanked the module. All the numbers are the same on it, so it should be a match. My next problem is the fact that I need the scantool to initialize the module and perform an ABS brake bleed since I will be disconnected all the brake lines.

Since buying a starscan is out of the question I found this company that has a OE-level scantool that I'm fairly certain will do what I need it to do for around $500.

I'm reluctant to take it back to the dealer and have them install my junkyard ABS module...if the thing doesn't work I will probably have spent just as much in labor as buying this scantool and I'll be right back at the beginning, or end up buy a brand new mopar module for unthinkable abouts of money. So before I go and purchase this software, I just wanted to check and see if my diagnosis makes sense, and if buying this scantool will do what I need it to do. I'm really in a tough place right now and any input is greatly appreciated.
