21.5, if that's what you have in front it is 2.25 inches of lift so a 30 inch tire will work ( i.e. 235-70-17s )

From what I gather the 235/70R16's are a tad shorter than the 225/75R16's

Difference between 16s and 17s

Awesome, is there a difference between a 235/70/17 and 245/70/17 heightwise or is the 245 just slightly wider. Seems like theres more tire choices for 245 but was trying to stay 235 for fuel economy/less rotational weight

It's down to the wire on getting tires now.

Have to order in the next couple of days.

What is the biggest tire I can run with stock suspension?

I'm looking for taller and skinnier as opposed to a wider tire.

What load range LT tires are recommended? I was thinking Load range D.

I have Firestone Transforce AT' load range E's on our 95 and 96 6.5 diesel Tahoe and Suburban. I've liked the way they have held up

Any recommendations for a slightly aggressive, long lasting highway tread tire?

Simple solution for stock suspension if you want to run 245/75/16's:
Add a 1/2 clevis spacer on the stock front struts. They can be home made (conduit nuts) or bought from: http://jeepinbyal.com/clevis-spacer-for-front-struts.html
Rears are none issue with 245's....
As to tires, many on this forum have stated that Goodyear Duratrax's are great for traction and tread wear...

Not really that simple to run 245-75-16s on stock suspension
Take most KJs are sitting at 17.5 to 18 inches due to sag ( you'd need 1 to 1.5 inches of " lift" to get back to even stock height where 245-70-16s was the largest you could run
Adding a clevis won't get most even back to stock height , plus would still ride like crap
Best bet measure first to see where you are and what you may have to do

Not really interested in running 245's I'd rather stay 225 or 235 and go as tall as possible

My 2005 CRD had 235/70/16's on stock sagged suspension with no rubbing issues before I replaced with Ironman springs and 245/7516's tires...

I ran 215-85-16 tires with a stock suspension.
No rubbing and no problems.

Older answers do not always contain new info. Availability comes and goes.

I did search and didn't find an answer. I searched several places, Google and other forums.

If you don't have anything to add to the conversation, don't waste everybody's time replying.

I can't tell you how many times I've answered the same questions on the 6.5 diesel forums. Over And Over aND OVER AGAIN.

Maybe you should post some links on this thread since you are so good at searching. That way anybody that found this thread would find those threads also.

Obviously I suck at searching. Because I never found the answer to my question when I searched.

Tire rack has all of the specs, just pick a tire and look to see what size is at or near 29 inches tall
If that doesn't work let me know and I'll pull my tire books out later

Thank you much
From what I saw online today the 225/75R16 was 29.5" tall and the 215/85R16 is 30.7" tall.

I think the 225/75R16 was the OEM tire size. Can somebody fill me in on that for sure?

I just want something like the LT215/85R16 load range D. But I have to know that it will not rub without a lift. I do not have time or money for a lift. I have 2 others vehicles that absolutely need to be worked on and I need this Jeep the hell away from me.

I can not afford to buy tires just to try them and see how they will work. Hell I can't afford the little bit of extra time that would take. Any time I waste time it just means something else isn't getting done.

I was down with health issues for about 7 years and no maintenance got done. Nothing got done. Now the amount that needs to be done is overwhelming. But I keep plugging away doing what I can. And I only get about a 3rd done a day - if that - compared to what I used to.

Tire Rack 225/75R16 was the OEM size Only one choice in a load range D. Many choices in Load range E - which seems like an excessively heavy tire for the Jeep. E's are all I've run for years on the 6.5 diesels. I haven't found the height chart there yet

I got hosed with a set of D's once. I'll give the sale gal, that we talked on the phone and I didn't notice til later they put D's on the Suburban. They wore on the outsides like they were run low on air.

it seems the all a lot of questions about is this tire shorter wider etc than this. It helps if you can read tire sizes. Metric sizes can be confusing for us americans but i will try to explain. P235/75-16 for example. the P is passenger some of you lifted offroaders are probably running LTs light truck. 235 is the width in millimeters. There are254mm in an inch so 255s dang close to 10"wide. Now the height is where most people get lost. 75 is a percentage, the side wall is 75% of the width, when determining total height you have two(2)sidewall(one above and one below) and the rim. 16 is you rim size. so for our example 235*1.5(75%*2)=352.5mm/25.4=13.878"+16"=29.878" Hope this helps.
Also tiresize.com has a nice chart to help you <https://tiresize.com/chart/>

Just a comment; same web site, tiresize.com has a real nice comparison tool where you can compare two different sizes of tires showing all relative dimensions.
A real neat tool that I use quite often! :D
