So, would the best first mod be a nice auburn or trutrac rear OR a lift and tires? Assuming the funds were not there for both at the same time and a powertrax no-slip is not an option......

I would say Skids & Boulder Bars

Then lift & tires

Then lockers, etc.

Yes, protect before you play. I'd rather spend $1000 on protection then $4000 on repairs.

If you are going offroad
- skids
- Boulderbars
- Lift
- Locker

Besides, by the time you buy, install, and use the skids/boulderbars and get the cash together for the lift, maybe the much rumored 4" lift will be out...

Good point on the bigger lifts....so waiting may not be a bad thing...

I have decided to go with the armor and LSD. I am forgoing rock rails at this time, as most of the trails around where I live are mostly muddy tracks through a forest with little or no rock climbing. I am getting skid plates.

I decided to go with the LSD over the lift at this point for a few reasons. One, my selling dealer told me that a lift will void the entire suspension/steering component warranty ( I only have 4,000 miles on it ) where the LSD would only void the rear differential warranty. They also said that, although they let TJ guys get away with bigger tires, they will not honer an exploded front KJ diff or CV joint problems if the rig has larger tires on it. They have not seen a cracked diff case at their dealership, but they knew about them....Hmmm..hard to say DC isn't aware that the D30A is a problem, huh? I know about Magnusson-Moss, but sometimes the easiest fight is the one you avoid.

I am also going to go with a more aggresive tire in the stock size. I will lift it and put bigger tires on it after those wear out. I think that the LSD and more aggressive tires will get me through the winter better, and some boulder bars are in order for the spring. I may do a clevis lift and an extra isolater in the rear as those are not as obvious as a traditional lift and are easily removed before a return to the dealer should a problem occur.

I appreciate the input, and I considered the info even though I went my own way. I guess I made my decision based on my personal situation, driving habits, climate, and tolerence for risk involving the warranty.

That's the best way to make a decision.
