Post subject:  JBA Upper Control Arms install
Installing JBA upper control arms for a 4" lift in my CRD. The upper control arms come with washer/spacer. Which side of the BJ do these go on? Knuckle to BJ boot, or castle nut to knuckle? Instructions do not show this spacer/washer.

you've probably got it figured out by now. But the BJ, goes through the knuckle, then the spacer goes on the bottom, then the castle but. The purpose of the spacer is to ensure you the cotter pin hole lined up with your castle nut slots.

If you put the spacer ontop, your bj won't fit the taper of the knuckle properly.

I put it together as 4X4kayak suggests. There's a JBA video on youtube that shows it in this orientation. Odd thing is that after torquing a bit beyond the factory spec so I could like up the castle nut, the spacer can freely rotate. Not sure the function. I'll email Marlin and see what he says.

You need a taller spacer, its supposed to hold the boot tight.

Between the steering knuckle and the ball joint boot.

Holy crap! No way!

Seriously?

I had to over torque mine, with the washer underneath, just to get the holes to line up.

Like wise, when I replaced my ubj's I didn't need a spacer at all.

Could we be seeing minor variations in the knuckles?

I can understand minor variations between brands of ubj, considering the replacement nut was a different size than what had come on the arm.
