JK Rubicon - Need to Keep Up

Not sure if this is the right location, but here goes:

Buddy of mine wants me to meet at his place in Prescott AZ to go wheeling. He has a 2010 JK Rubi 4dr. 4" Terraflex long arm suspension with Fox reservoirs. 37" MTRs. Hotchkiss beedlocks. Winch. Rock sliders.

I have a 2005 CRD Frankenlifted w/ spacers. Rear sway delete. 31.5" Duratracs. 15" steel wheels. Stock skids. Front brake upgrade.

What else do I need to keep up? (Please don't tell me I need a Rubicon aka thanks for nothing).

It all depends on the timeline.

Short timeline:

Sliders and lockers for the rear if you could also loose the swaybar when you hit the trail. Get a high lift. Most essential piece of kit out there.

Assuming this is a friendly wheeling trip and he doesn't mind dragging you over stuff... Just get some front tow hooks

You'll be surprised what your Libby can do.

IMHO look at my signature of my 02. I can keep up the the JKs on 35-37s.

Im soon going permanently with 33s. I have test fitted some loners but need to wear down my 32.2s.

As long as you have skids/ rockrails
go have fun, enjoy wheeling instead of stressing of what you should have or could have
You'll be surprised at how good it will do with a little common sense
I've see well equipped Wranglers stuck due to drivers having more money than sense ( if you know what I mean)

You should be okay depending where you're wheeling at. Have fun, supposed to be a nice weekend weather wise.

Sounds like rock sliders, hi lift and some solid hook points. Any suggestions on hi lift mounting for trail use??? Maybe just get a roof basket and mount up top?

I have a couple months to get it together. Not stressing, just want to be prepared. As a matter of fact, my buddy with the monster JK thinks my Libby is sweet. Especially the fuel mileage and torque

And yes, the CRD is pretty darn capable with my current parts. Goes up, over and through most anything i've thrown at it.

Forget the hi-lift unless you have aftermarket bumpers and a place to use them , not sure why that was even mentioned
If someday you get aftermarket bumpers then you can stick the hi-lift under the rear seat

I agree, you don't really need the jack for this trip, but it is a good investment overall if you like to explore alone, then it is highly recommended. Tow points and skids/sliders for this trip, and a basket full of grins!

I agree with the others that said just go have fun. I have about the same set up as you, and I just spent two weeks with FMCA 4 wheelers in Moab. They rate there trails from 1 to 5, and my Libby did the three's with some difficulty, but it did them with out a tow strap. Trust your Libby, it will do it, just no 3.5 or harder. Bruce

Powerstop towing brake kit plus EBC Yellowstuff pads. Much needed with my wheel/ tire setup.

I'll pop a couple D rings into the front tow bars. My CRD use to be towed behind a motor home most it's life (I clearly saved it).

I'm looking at Rocky Road rock sliders vs super sliders. Super sliders have an additional protection bar higher up towards the bottom of the door opening. +$100. Any suggestions?

Also, which additional skids so I need? Should I buy a set online or checkout my local muffler/ fab shop first?? I'm definitely stopping by to talk about fabbing up a front bumper.

RRO,......No, they are weak at best if you're needing rock rails buy good ones not cheap ones
Skids you need them all IMO front, trans, transfer case and gas tank

Agree with Tom. I would say Rocklizard, but they are no longer able to produce orders.

But if you want great solid rocksliders, i have what you need.

These guys nailed it. Skids, recovery, and sliders. To be more capable lockers front and rear will help you get through almost anything. Obviously the KJ won't crawl massive boulders like the JK, but it'll keep up on most other trails.

Actually, with good two footed driving technique and a good spotter, you won't need any of that.

Driving elegantly will overcome many, many obstacles...don't let anyone talk you into anything you don't feel comfortable tackling...that's what bypasses are for...a lot of fancy, tricked out Jeeps in a club I used to belong to were regularly humbled by a 72-year-old married couple in a stock CJ-3B because 1. the old fellow knew that Jeep's reputation was built on a small, light vehicle with modest horsepower and killer gearing, and 2. he knew his vehicle and its strengths and limitations intimately...

X2 on the recovery gear, skids, correct tire pressure for offroad, and common sense...have fun!

I have a full sized spare out back. Last time I went wheeling I dragged the spare on the ground - and I have the rear spacer plates.

Should I get a roof basket and put the spare up top instead of out back?

Two ways to look at this issue of the spare tire dragging
One if it is dragging if you removed it what else would then hit and possibly tear something else off?
Also if it drags, throw it in the back when off roading
Having it on top is a huge pain
