So,I just bought a '07 KJ with 30000 miles on it. After driving it for a while I started hearing a high pitch whining sound from the drivetrain while in 1st gear. I can hear it well when moving slowly in 1st if I go faster the engine noise would make it fade away. It instantly goes away when the gearbox shifts to second gear. I can also hear the same noise while doing 70 +/- 5 mph on the highway. It goes away at different speeds. I drove a bunch of other Liberties before buying this one and I don't think I noticed that noise on any of them. On the other hand, I didn't really notice it in this one either. I see claims on the internet that most/all 42RLEs do that. Still some people say theirs are dead quiet. So, does anybody else here have that? |

Older MOPAR trannies would whine when dirty filter was starving them for fluid. 30K of unknown miles would be a good time for a fluid/filter change. Bob |

my 45rfe does it only when I need a trans filter change. it's like clock work,. it did it yesterday after driving about 200 miles first time since last filter change that it's done it and it's due |
