So,I just bought a '07 KJ with 30000 miles on it. After driving it for a while I started hearing a high pitch whining sound from the drivetrain while in 1st gear. I can hear it well when moving slowly in 1st if I go faster the engine noise would make it fade away.

It instantly goes away when the gearbox shifts to second gear. I can also hear the same noise while doing 70 +/- 5 mph on the highway. It goes away at different speeds.

I drove a bunch of other Liberties before buying this one and I don't think I noticed that noise on any of them. On the other hand, I didn't really notice it in this one either.

I see claims on the internet that most/all 42RLEs do that. Still some people say theirs are dead quiet. So, does anybody else here have that?

Older MOPAR trannies would whine when dirty filter was starving them for fluid. 30K of unknown miles would be a good time for a fluid/filter change.
