Two weeks ago I had my KJ broken into and a significant amount of gear stolen. My bad, it shouldn't have been left in there in the first place.

Moving forward, I'm curious to hear about any sugestions for safes or lock boxes that might fit in the rear cargo area. Nothing crazy, just something that would fit a laptop or similar. Sometimes I want to hit the supermarket on the way home, but don't want to lug my whole computer bag inside.

Create a rectangular box from 1/8" steel. Hinges inside and a recessed lid to prevent it being pried open. If you put a gasket around the lip on the inside it could Ben be water tight. Oh ya, don't forget to bolt it to the interior somewhere.

You may call me crazy, but I've often wondered what sort of anti theft deterrence apparatus I could create using an aftermarket setup and relays, solenoids, compressed gas etc etc.

I had a Grand Prix I left in a church parking lot once overnight with a dead alternator. Came back the next morning and it was totally destroyed, all four windows smashed and front two doors ripped off their hinges... Knowing what I know now, and the availability of non lethal remedies it is quite possible I could have had the car "shoot back". Imagine the air bags going off while someone is trying to Hotwire your car or set to a ten second timer after the alarm trips?

Maybe this is just crazy talk, but unless you've been violated, u don't understand.

Yep, I understand the feeling. I didn't realize how false my sense of security was until my window was smashed and I lost $12K worth of camera gear.

One suggestion I heard was bolting a Pelican case into the back using wing nuts on the inside, so I can move it around pretty easily if needed. It would be locked with a pair of heavy duty Master locks--it wouldn't stop a pro with bolt cutters, but it would be effective against the casual smash-and-grabber.

I believe my idea would be cheaper and more effective than a plastic case. You could always buy the foam separately to make it like a pelican.
