Happy New Year I have been looking into replacement options for the dual mass flywheel in my 2006 KJ 3.7 4x4 6MT. Candidates so far are 1. Solid mass flywheel from a 2004 3.7 KJ. No longer available as new. 2. Mcleod 10.5 inch flywheel for the Dodge 5.7. Paert number 464108. The dodge 3.7,4.7&5.7 all share the same bolt pattern since they use the same flexplate in auotmatic applications. This is a 130t ring gear and the original uses a 131t. However the OD on this flywheel is 13.195 according to the guys at Mcleod. In my searching I found 130 and 131 tooth being referred to the same ring gear. The dual mass replacement from AMS shows an OD of 14.244 which is only 0.049 larger diameter. Is this enough to be an issue? Can the starter be shimmed? 3. Man-up to a Getrag g238 out of a Dakota (used with the 3.7 and 4.7 in 2008) and go with a 11 or 12 inch flywheel. Plus a new starter... Cheers |

Update. I found a good used 2004 flywheel (3.7 engine) and installed with a new Luk clutch kit for a 2004 and SKF throw out bearing. The Luk kit came with a plastic bodied throw out that I didn't care for. The flywheel just needed cleaning up with some sandpaper. Installed with a low mileage replacement nsg370. My old transmission was on the way out. Just got it back. Drives great. A bit slower to shift with the heavy solid mass flywheel. Nice and smooth even letting out the clutch from idle. I will update after some heavy towing. |
