Tow strap question.

I am going to buy a tow strap, and was wondering if it would be better to have a 2'' x 15' or 2" x 30'? or maybe (2) 2" x 15'?

I have a 30 footer.In some cases it's hard to get close.And if all you need is 15 feet,you can just hook it to your jeep,wrap it around the distressed jeep,and hook the other end back to your jeep for a double strong 15 footer.

I have always found that at least 20 but 30 is better. 15 footers are just not long enough to get you away from what you are pulling. With a 30 foot you can run it to what you are pulling and lap back to yours if you need to.

so what brand of strap would be good?...i'm not sure, I know ARB makes some straps that I have been looking at for my trip to Utah in July but I've been looking for some other brands as well..i think Warn might make some..I'll have to check on that though...anyone else know any brands that they trust for good recovery straps?

I got a 20K lifting sling I think 2" X 20'
I will sell it for ~$20 but you will need to come down and make a ride to get it :wink:

keep in mind this thing probably cost ~$100 brand new it was used maybe 3 times and stored in side a tool box
they are now out of cetification so they can not be used for lifting but make great tow straps

I now have 4 great tow straps in the TJ and 1 in the KJ

whats wrong with 3" or 4"

if you are actually stuck with a liberty a 2" strap is going to snap. and always get the longest strap you can, you can always double it back, so i'd say 30'

I just picked up a strap from Tractor Supply Co. It's made by Erickson (In Canada) and is a 3" - 20' nylon strap rated at 27,000 lbs. I wasn't sure if I should of went with the 2" - 18,000 lb strap or the 3" - 27,000 lb strap. Didn't know if the 3" was overkill or not. It cost about $40.00 with tax.

If it's rated, then whichever one you get will work. Unrated, it's luck of the draw. Just make sure that it DOESN'T (DOES NOT) have metal ends. I've got a Procomp 3"x30' on the way, rated at 30,000#. I tend to stay away from Warn products, as I think that they're just overpriced because they say WARN on them. Just personal preference really. Good luck!

2"X30' 18K is just fine, and is what I bought at TSC. The 3" is a little overkill but that better than not enough I suppose. The only problem you might have with a 3" is it wont give you as much of the stretching effect that can be helpful sometimes. And they are a little more awkward to handle. I guess the upside is if you ever need a strap to link a tractor to a stuck dumptruck, you will have the right one.

Find the highest capacity strap you can find... Who know's what you'll run across in your travels

remember those ratings are for constant force and not Impact loading.

it better to go big, i guess you could keep a small one around for little stucks, but if you ever really get stuck, then the 2" may not be enough

I carry two 4"x6' for tree straps (lifting slings from my rigging days). Then I also carry a 2"x 20' and a 3"x30'. I have not use the 3"x30' yet, but I like to be prepared. Warn, ARB, etc etc. Brands don't matter unless you like to have pretty equipment. Look at the ratings, thats what counts.

.Got my straps at a tractor supply company,don't recall the brand but they are made to pull tractors out so they can't be that bad(never had any problems yet).Wanted to get there 6"x75'(100,000 lbs) strap but couldn't bring myself to spending $150 on a strap.
