I found a squeak in my drive shaft and want replace the rear drive-shaft u-joint. It's a NP242 with a slip yoke and a 1310 series in the back by the 8.25. I'd like to use a spicer to replace the joint for quality reasons. All the fitment guides say 5-1310-1x or 5-153x (both greasable, different nipple location). I'd like to use the 5-1310x (triple-sealed non-greasable) but even though the dimensions look the same as the others, it doesn't show up in any of the application checkers on any sites. Anyone know if this is indeed interchangeable for the others? Please no comments about greasable vs. no-greasable....not up for a holy-war today. |

I answered my own question. Any 1310-sized unit will fit. I removed the shaft. The front joint was seeping (bad for a sealed joint) and the back was far enough gone that I had to try pretty hard to move it through it's range of motion (like the knees of a retired baseball player, it was pretty crunchy). The local driveline shop put two new greasable napaco joints with low-profile (needle) zerks for clearance, cleaned, painted, and balanced for about $150. After cleaning and lubing the output slip-joint on the case, re-install took about 10 minutes. ![]() Dan |
