First time on here, was hoping you more knowledgeable guys might be able to help me.

I have a 06 jeep liberty. 201000km I have kept up with all repair and maintenance work. Have never had a problem with it and have loved it since the day i bought it 5 years ago.

Yesterday i drove it around town, nothing out of the ordinary, went into a store for 45 mins came out tried to start and nothing. I have all my lights, checked the battery volts all good, when i turn the key everything works like it normally does except the no crank, doesn't even try. Can hear the fuel pump running and when I cycle through my gear shiftier the back up light come on when in reverse (read that this rules out the neutral safety switch) was able to get it started by keeping the key to the start position and wiggling the steering wheel. Got it home turned it off then tried to start again right away and nothing again, couldn't get it start for the rest of the night. I checked the battery and the starter, both where good.

Decided to wait until morning to work on it, went out to give it a try and now it starts every time no problem.

So my question is, Has anyone seen this problem before? Could it be the ignition switch actuator pin? and if so would it start the jeep again or is it broken once broken for good? If my backup lights come on in the right gear does this rule out my NSS?

is there a way to bring up the error codes on an 06 liberty?

ps I once owned a ford expedition and had the problem of when it got too hot outside the key and ignition won't talk to each other so it would not start until things cooled down, does 06 liberty have such a thing?

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

I guess it is possible that the wheel-wiggle got whatever chunk that broke off in just the right place to turn the cam in the switch one more time.

Have you jumped the starter relay contacts and gotten reliable starts? Can't recall the numbers off the cuff, but it is the two that are parallel, not any of the three parallel ones. if so, that suggests actuator/ switch.
