Post subject:  2005 2.8 CRD Liberty KJ Glow Plugs

Hi,

Any folk out there got any advice about CRD glow plug choice and replacement?

I have a 2.5 CRD and need to replace mine soon, but I guess that's a reasonably straightforward job (subject to being able to get them out!).

A friend, however, has a 2.8 CRD (the Mercedes engine?) and they apparently had ceramic 7V plugs originally. I understand that these either had a recall for replacement or some were replaced by owners, as the ceramics can perish. An aftermarket set of 5V metal plugs can be fitted (although I assume a relay replacement is required). Some 7V metal ones are knocking about on auction sites, but these seem rare.

If anyone has any advice on spotting the types of plugs fitted, relay type spotting, choice of plugs, replacement, etc. I would be very grateful. I also guess a good way to test the voltage from the relay is to run a tester across one of the glow plug contacts.

Thanks in advance!

actually the 2.8 is just like the 2.5 -VM Motori bored and stroked a tad

the 3.0 V6 in the Grand's were Mercedes

'CRD... love that torque' is the main diesel section - with more information

and we even have our own tech - with a Glow Plug replacement writeup

actually there's an aftermarket 7v metallic that's a drop in replacement - Etecno
OEM Part Number: 5142577AA
Manufacturer Number: GX3123
we get them from IDparts - but it's a European supplier.

the 5v need a dealership reprogram.

neither of the metallics work as well as the Ceramic - but they don't break and kill valves.
