Post subject:  I purchaced a disassembeled Liberty CRD, help me diagnose it

My information is somewhat limited and I am just starting to try to figure it out, Sunday I got a great deal on a 2005 CRD, I have a few diesels including a few Mercedes from 82 to 05,various trucks, Peugeot, i understand the mechanics, but when I saw the timing belt I wondered what they were thinking, chain please.

The Jeep has been disasembeled down to the timing belt, front end has been removed, belt is in place, car has 140k miles on the original belt per seller, I did not see any timing marks to check for a skipped tooth or proper alignment, seller stated it made a popping noise from the intake as if a valve was not sealing, bent, stuck, ect. I don't know if I can turn it over to replicate this noise or verify any of the above. When I get home I can check to see if any codes are stored, however the battery has been disconnected for an extended period so they may have cleared if there were any.

Any help or direction for further diagnosis would be appreciated, I read about sacrifical rockers, it seems that would keep the valve closed, not open.

Any repair will include a used junk yard timing belt... I know someone will ask. and someone else will take that seriously :-)r

Thanks in advance for the help.

You need to post this in the CRD Love That Torque section. It will get more views and replys there.

My advice is to pull the head and have it checked.
Then reassemble with ARP studs, new rockers, new thermostat, new water pump, and new belt and pulleys.

I see my mistake now! Should I ask the moderator to move it so I can avoid double posting?
