| Post subject: | 2.8 CRD 4x4 (RHD) - Power Steering Suppressor? |
Hi all4 Newbie here UK based so the KJ is a right hand drive model. Just bought this car - 2005 model with 120,000 miles on it, service history up to about 80,000, reasonable condition - needs tyres and cam belt. Biggest problem is an ATF leak at the front end that is the power steering (not the transmission cooler for sure). I've been looking at the parts fiche for ages and was unable to find the exact part as the pipes on this car look different. However the FSM (page 19-36) proudly displays the offending part which is a 'power steering suppressor'. I can find no part number for a pipe with one of these suppressors on it. Can anybody shed any light onto this? Would fitting a normal pipe do the trick? Thanks Graeme [edit] - ahh - just seen this post viewtopic.php?f=5&t=84604&hilit=power+steering+cooler so I'm thinking pull the old pipes off, check the o rings and if still leaking then get a custom set made up using the old ends (Pirtek in the UK have done the same for me in the past) - looks like the RHD parts are not readily available |

ya talking about the pulse suppressor? it looks like a soda can bolted somewhere about mid way through the pressure line? im hoping youll probably find it's the back of the pressure line a bit below the pump that's rubbed on something and throwing fluid towards the suppressor. the suppressors themselves, as far as i know, were never sold as a unit, always as part of 52129342AF or the high pressure line set , both of which have been discontinued your best bet is to have the set rebuilt, especially with it being a RHD there was an icelander on facebook i was reading a bit on and he had ran up on a rock or stump or something and ripped the lines off of his and he pieced the system back together with a suppressor from a 2000 windstar van |

| Post subject: | Re: 2.8 CRD 4x4 (RHD) - Transmission Cooling Pipe! |
Hi That's the part I've found - thanks for the reply - however I am eating my own words here - it IS the transmission cooler and not the high pressure power steering. The latter has rubbed a hole in the transmission cooling pipe, the ATF from there has ran along the power steering pipe giving rise to the belief that the power steering was the problem (not helped by the fact that the previous owner has left all the fluids at, or near empty). So I have a hole in the lower tranny cooling pipe about 2 inches in front of the axle. Mopar # is 55037734AD but shipping to the UK is either not quoted or prohibitive. I've previously repaired these lines on a MB AutoBox using pipe clamps (jubilee clips) and TOC hose over a flanged end on the cooler lines - trouble there is that the MB box under heavy load (towing) blows the fittings. Googlinen some heavy towing (around 2 metric tonnes so 4,000 US pounds) - weather here is mild - ave 23 - 82Fg strongly suggests that the KJ lines can be patched patched using this method though - has anybody done such a repair and th Edit: yup - it works, two hundred miles + 2 metric tonnes = no problem, no leaks - happy! Thanks Graeme |
