My kj is having an issue with starting. It seems like an electrical thing. Perhaps an ignition switch. However, I would like some suggestions as what it could be. It starts fine when the vehicle hasn't been driven for awhile. And, if I am just driving around town it usually starts fine. But, if I drive on a longer trip like an hour or something, if I shut it off the vehicle does not start. I turn the key and nothing happens. Usually, no sound or anything. The radio, accessories, everything still works. Just will not start. I have to wait for 20 minutes or so for something to cool down i guess, and then it just works. I took it to the mechanic one time but at the time it was working fine for them so they could not find a problem. They said to have the dealer install a new ignition switch to see if that fixed it. Would an ignition switch cause this issue? I can't imagine what is causing it? Any suggestions? |

If it's heat related, I would start by looking at crank/cam sensors. |

X2 Most likely the crank sensor, they are notorious for causing heat related starting or shutoff issues...I would replace it first Quote: Instructions by CATCRD to replace: To remove the crank sensor, the best way is from under the passenger side. There is a small heat shield on the block, below the turbo, which protects the sensor from heat off the downpipe. Remove the two 10mm bolts holding it on and you can drop it out and see the sensor. An 8mm bolt holds the pigtail bracket to the engine, I had to remove that just to squeeze the plug locking tab. Then a 5mm allen will remove the sensor from the block, it sticks about 2 inches into the block and will come out oily. Note: You need to jack up right front of vehicle or drive up on some ramps to get at it from the bottom side...engine needs to be cold as you will be working right next to exhaust down pipe!
