Can a faulty block heater cause the ETC light to come on? It's -40 with the windchill. I leave it plugged in at home over night and I have no issues. I leave it plugged in at work, start it, let it run, put it in gear and barely get out of the parking lot and the ETC starts flashing. Pull over, turn off Jeep and start it and it's fine. We put the tester on the block heater cord and found that it is faulty, picking up new one on Friday.

2006 Jeep Liberty CRD with 236,000 KM on it.

Thoughts?

Unless the block heater cord is shorting out on something, it should have no effect on any engine parts.
You are going to have to check the diagnostic codes.

It seems that there is something going on with the cord and it is using the frame of the vehicle to ground itself and causing a whole bunch of issues. Installing new block heater and cord tomorrow. Hoping this will fix it. Cross your fingers for me!
