Hello,

I have a 2003 Cherokee (UK) - Liberty CRD which I've had from new. It's done 150,000 miles. I have an oil leak which seems to be consistently three drips from around the point where the engine and the gearbox/transmission are connected. Any thoughts on what this might be and what's involved in correcting it? I asked at a garage and they were reluctant to even give me a quote - they said it needs the engine and gear box removed which in their view was going to cost more than the vehicle is worth.

Is there anything I can do? What about additives that seal small leaks? Are there any and if so do they work?

It looks to me as though it's engine oil - it's black - not transmission oil which as far as I can tell is red.

Thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

John

The leak is either from the engine rear main seal or the turbo oil drain pipe.
In either case, the seals can be replaced.
Rear main seal requires removal of the transmission.

If the leaks arent that bad, just keep an eye on it and add oil when necessary.
