Post subject:  EGR Valve and Bardahl products

Hi all,

Since it's very difficult to remove the EGR valve to clean it, do you know this product made by Bardahl ?

http://en.bardahlfrance.fr/produits/210-root.html

They ask to remove the EGR valve to clean it. But some years ago they sold the same product, without removing the EGR valve. The process was to inject the fluid into the hose after the mass air flow sensor.

Did you try this solution ?

Thank you
Regards

Fabien

I am unfamiliar with that product both regarding use or effectiveness.
However,
If you injected a saturation contact type cleaner into the intake behind the MAF sensor on this engine, it would not work, as it would necessarily pass through the turbo, the intercooler, and both CAC hoses before reaching the EGR assembly at all.

With the outlet of the intercooler being half way up from the bottom, any such product would puddle at the bottom rather than pass through. Possibly damaging the intercooler, and definitely reducing it's effectiveness.

Since you basically have to pull everything off to reach the entry into the EGR valve, you might as well just remove it as directed.

And since it's already out, might as well just replace it with a weeks elbow, and toss the problem-ridden sludge-making contraption in the bin, and breathe some life and hope back into your engine. It's been breathing it's own rectal emissions up till now, and would thank you for being freed of that.

Best solution, either completely remove the EGR system for good by installing a Weeks Elbow Kit (SasquatchParts.com) or if you want to leave the EGR valve in place for visual reasons, simply install a block off plate on the feed tube:

Thank you very for all your answers. I will not try to inject the fluid into the hose !!!!! :pepper:

So I have to remove the EGR and to clean it.

Have you a process with pictures ? Thank u very much

The best guide with pictures that I know of is on Sasquatch Parts site.

To access it you need to create an account and be logged in.

It's actually the directions for removal of EGR and installation of the weeks elbow, but you can follow it only as far as you find necessary for what you want.

But seriously, keeping those abrasive free carbon particles from going back through your engine is one of the very best things you can do for it.
The engine will actually burn the fuel more completely, and the environment greatly prefers CO2 versus free atmospheric carbon particulate soot.
It's no better for us to breathe than it is for your engine.

Edit 2:
IF your concern is passing smog "sniffer" test, truth is it will pass more easily with the great lowering of hydrocarbon emissions.
IF your concern is passing smog "visible" test, do as I did. Order the weeks 1 kit in Black. Use Ultra Black RTV when sealing the intake manifold adapter to the manifold. Use either the stock CAC-to-Intake hose, or a black silicone hose (IDParts / Samco / Mishimoto). Once fully assembled again, the battery, dipstick tube, wiring loom, and alternator put everything changed in shadow from above, and the starter and front prop shaft conceal any changes from below. Everything looks completely stock, except the Sasquatch battery tray.

Edit 3:
IF it's a problem of economics that's stopping you, make a block off device per instructions of WWDiesel, and remove the flapper plate from inside the FCV. Not the ideal solution, but it works.
