So long story short, my rear parking brake backer plates rusted and rotted off like 8yrs ago. I've never replaced them because I've never used them, and I've also never had an issue when it came to PA inspection. Well now my inspection mechanic wants everything replaced and fixed even though the last 7yrs it has been fine. So I started searching the web and going around to the local dealers to see about getting new backers, and much to my amazement and disappointment, they are about $400 a piece???? Can someone explain to me why they are so much and what changed from the 06-07 model KJ's to the new KK's? I can get a fully loaded KK backer plate for $90, which is about right for me. Do the KK's still have the 8.25 rear axle in them and will I be able to use their backers and brakes on my 06 KJ? I'm a welder by trade so I can always modify or move brackets if they use different cable or something. For $800 I can get a whole axle and toss in there ![]() What about Dakota's and Durango's, I think they use an 8.25 rear axle also Anyways I'm appreciative of any help or incite. I really don't want to pay so much for something I am able to work around or change |

How bad are they? I got nabbed for an inspection a while back and had a similar issue. I managed to clean mine up enough and haggardly rivet some sheet metal in place so the little retaining pins could be secured. Then I tapped in some bolts to fix it to the axle. Has held up well enough. |
