Hey guys,
I've done a bunch of searching but haven't quite figured out the cause of this issue:

(recently purchased to replace my old one) 2006 Liberty Sport CRD. swapped in 2005 LSD otherwise stock.
It started out as intermittent, and over a few weeks has become very consistent.

When accelerating (even lightly) up any incline, the ESP / BAS system engages the rear brakes and cuts the throttle. This continues regardless of the traction control off button being used or not.
It seems that if I back off and re-apply the throttle, that sometimes overcomes the issue. It often takes a few tries.

Otherwise the Jeep drives fine, long highway commutes and city errands.

any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

-Grant

I know there are differences between the 2005 ABS and 2006 ABS systems, specific to the rear axle, but I'm not sure what they are exactly.
I THINK that the 2005 rear end has 1 abs sensor with limited slip. and the 2006s have open diffs with ABS sensors at each wheel.

I don't know if this might have any relation to your problem, but it's the first thing that came to mind reading your post.

You are correct. There is one sensor on the 2005 axle and two on the 2006. I actually swapped the internal carrier and kept the axles and housing so the sensors remained original.

All wiring and sensors appear to the in good shape. I will test them in depth tonight.
No codes or dash lights come on

*Update. No longer just on hills. Any acceleration seems to set it off.

Had that happen last summer on my 2006 CRD.

It first occurred when I fired it up during a summer deluge that dropped around 3 inches of rain in 7 minutes.
I started the Heap and drove about 30 feet before it started locking up intermittently, then it'd be fine for half a mile, then it'd reoccur for miles at a time for a 350 mile trip.

I stripped out the interior carpet when I found it was flooded, and assumed that the water had caused it, but even after baking in the sunshine with the carpet stripped and the windows open for days and days it was still intermittent.
All the same lights you mention on, the dealer read/cleared the codes several times and scratched head.

I finally just went to NAPA, replaced both sensors in the rear axle break housings, and it's been fine ever since.

It took me over two weeks to figure out I just had to do the easiest thing first.

Waiting for time, limber fingers, and good weather to do my HDS Model 001 Thermostat unit swap.
