Funny, I had the same issue when I tried to replace the bushings on the OEM boomerang. Had to tack weld them in place just like you did till I could get a whole replacement arm shipped in!
Replaced it with a Moog unit, and so far it has held up OK and I hope it continous to do so. I do hear those forward mounts where the boomerang mount to the body every once in a while when the transmission upshifts or downshifts between gears!
IF it fails again, I would certainly consider upgrading to the WJ Adjustable A-Arm. And yes, I realize it would require making a new HD mounting bracket to fit the KJ differential.
