I have the chance to buy a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7L for $6K (in Australia known as the Cherokee KJ), with 122K kilometers (75800 Miles) on the ODO. It has a small dent at the back (where the spare wheel is mounted) but looks like an easy fix.

I have a pretty good idea on what to check on the Diesel 2.8L (I also own a 2006 Libety CRD), but have limited knowledge on the 3.7L and the 4 Speed Transmission.

From what I read the 3.7L are bullet proof, but the transmissions (42RLE) are junk and break easy.

Are there anything specific to check on the 3.7L with the 4 Speed Auto ?

I recommend the 6-speed with the 3.7L. Closer ratios than the auto and shifts really nice (Mercedes built).

over 222,000 on the 04
110,000 on the 05 and
121,000 on the 03

The Jeep turned out to be a lemon.
Only had a few years of service history, and the it wasn't shifting smooth.
By the time I got back to the Dealer from my test drive, the 4 Speed Auto transmission fluid was puking out.

However I did like the power of the V6, as it had plenty of power.

I'll just keep looking for now.
