Hi, all,
I’ve got an ‘05 CRD with 175k on it. It also has one of the early lifts on it, barely enough to run 245/75-16 tires. Front shocks have been bad for quite awhile, so I just replaced them.
Ride is firmer, but now I’m noticing something that makes me nervous. Maybe the bad shocks were masking it, or maybe the new shocks are bringing it out, but...
At right around 50mph, I start feeling this fairly regular vibration in the driveline. But it’s almost like you’re driving on a road that has had a lot of cracks fixed: you feel it more than hear it. It is probably about one thump per tire revolution, but that’s kind of hard to say. Doesn’t seem to matter whether it is in AWD, or if the transmission is in neutral.
First thing when I noticed it was take it to the tire shop. They balanced and rotated the tires, and didn’t see anything the likened to tread separation. But the issue is still there.
Any thoughts on what this is likely to be or how best to trace it down? Kind of hard to diagnose when it only happens at speed.
Thanks!
