Hi guys.
Do I need spacers or pounding if I want to buy 245/75/16 tires for stock rims? I'm going to lift it 2'' too.

What is your vehicle, you did not state? Gas or diesel, it makes a big difference!

First question is what lift are you getting?
Before I can answer anything must know that

Most use OME 927/948 combo of springs which give you 2.5 inches of lift
then either OME or Bilstein shocks, plus bumpstops etc
but if you are talking say a spacer lift, Skyjacker, Rustys , RRO, then the end results will be different
so back to the original question and guessing its a gasser not CRD

It is going to be Ironman 2'' lift. No spacer lift but a proper springs etc.
And yes it is gas.

Ok, let me rephrase and be as specific as I can.

I'm thinking about 245/75/16 or 255/70/16 on stock rims for Jeep Liberty 3.7 GAS which will be lifted 2'' on Ironman kit (springs, shock absorbers).
The car is only for town, road, no offroad whatsoever. It is my wife's baby.
It has been fully reconstructed (new panel, doors, chroms, paintwork, light-bar etc.) Looks like new! I want it to look as cool as possible ;-) 255's would look nicer I think.
If there will be some rubbing at a full turn (lock) - no problem I can live with that. But of course it can not rub on every single bump, let's be reasonable ;-)
Should I go for it? (rememeber - stock rims).

I would say go for it!!!!
I have the Ironman springs/Bilstein struts & shocks on my Liberty diesel and I am running 245x75R16's all terrains on factory stock wheels and have absolutely no rubbing of any kind.
Ironman Springs, Front: JEEP014C, Rear: JEEP015B
Bilstein Struts/Shocks, Front: 24-139168, Rear: 24-139175

I do have a 1/2" clevis spacer on front struts to help with the heavier weight of the diesel engine!
I got about a 2.5" lift out of this setup! Rides and handles great!

With your gasser, if you run these springs minus a clevis spacer you should be just fine with the 245x75R16's on stock wheels I would think since you have less engine weight.
But I certainly defer to any advice by TMud and / or TJ as they have lots of experience with raising gassers, tire selections, etc....

And 255/70/16? They are little bit wider but shorter. Does it mean they are riskier?

245/75/16 -> 1.52 bigger, 0.39 wider than stock
255/70/16 -> 1.1 bigger, 0.79 wider than stock

I'm running the iron man lift with 255 70 16. You will need wheel spacers. I ran for a while without, lots of rubbing. Much better with spidertrax spacers.
Is recommend 245 75 16

Yeah add spacers and beat the pinch weld. I'm running 245/75 on the stock rims 1.25" spidertrac spacers with 3" lift and I get a little rubbing on the weld. Without the spacers it would not be pretty

The 255/70/16 wider tires will scrub more!
difference between 9.6" tread width versus 10" tread width!

I'm not that sure about that.
255/70-16 245/75-16 Difference
Diameter inches (mm) 30.06 (763.4) 30.47 (773.9) 0.41 (10.5) 1.4%
Width inches (mm) 10.04 (255) 9.65 (245) -0.39 (-10) -3.9%
Circum. inches (mm) 94.42 (2398.29) 95.72 (2431.28) 1.3 (32.99) 1.4%
Sidewall Height inches (mm) 7.03 (178.5) 7.23 (183.75) 0.21 (5.25) 2.9%
Revolutions per mile (km) 671.04 (416.96) 661.93 (411.31) -9.1 (-5.66) -1.4%

Diameter and circumpherence are bigger in 245.

Depends on tire brand and type of tread, slight difference in specs between different ones....

So, I have a 2" lift, 1.5" spacers and run 245/70/16 tyres. I haven't pinched the weld, I don't get rubbing on it but I do get mild rubbing on the under front bumper at full lock with compressed front springs (happens off-road).

I was thinking of going "up one size" with tyres, either 245/75/16 or 255/70/16, but I am definite I will get rubbing unless I give up on the spacers (which I don't want to do since with them the car is more stable on-road) and pinch the weld, OR I do some serious trimming of the under front bumper (I don't want to do that either).

Also, calculations-wise, you need to take into account one additional measure. Think about the longest stick you can fit into the tyre (or the longest line that you can fit in a cylinder with the dimensions of the tyre) -- that's the length you need to fit in the wheel well under full articulation of the suspension. For 245/70/16, this length is 769mm, for 255/70/16 it's 784mm, and for 245/75/16 it's 795mm.

So, a 245/75/16 tyre will definitely rub more than a 255/70/16 tyre.

I believe that for 255/70/16 you will need to pinch the weld and possibly use rims (or stock rims and spacers) with an effective offset between 10 and 25 (that's backspacing between 4.5" and 5" on a 7" width).

That's why I'm still at 245/70/16 :)

Ever considered adding a clevis spacer or top plate spacer to gain more clearance on the front tires!

We're running 245/75R16 with some lift. Pinch welds folded.

1.25" spacers with stock wheels (summer) and 1.5" spacer/adapters with JK wheels (winter). Tires sit nice and flush with the edges of the flares. Slight rubbing at full lock. No big deal.
