Hey Ya'll,
Since adding my Frankenlift i've noticed a howl while going over 50. The sound is like blowing over a bottle and is quite loud!
Thought maybe it was caused by the little holes on top of the luggage rails and covered them up but no joy.
Anyone have any idea or experiencing the same thing?

Do you have cross-bars, Rene lights, or roof rack? Probably just a change in the air flow from the change in height and change in rake of the vehicle.

What if any other changes were made when lifted? Tires, wheels, winch etc?

Thanks for the feed back.
There were no other changes made, there are no lights rack or cross bars. I had some homemade cross bars on but removed them on the off chance they were causing the issue . It's hard to tell when running at 55 but i'm pretty certain that the noise is coming from the roof.
Probably end up removing the rails to see if that takes care of it.

yeah once your jeep is lifted, the aerodynamics is going to change....and you're going to hear things you never did before. i use to worry about every sound i heard while driving my KJ and it drove me nuts! until i realized, "hey, i wanted a lifted jeep and there are going to be weird noises so i need to just relax and enjoy the ride 8) "

i run BFG KM2s and i hear weird noises everytime i drive the Jeep
my steering wheel isn't in perfect alignment (hasn't been since late sept. 2010 after i lifted it and had it aligned). i quit worrying about that....if it still runs and drive okay...im not going to worry until it quits on me...

the only other thing i can tell you the howling noise could be is a u-joint getting ready to go out...seems my jeep did that "howling" thing at that speed before the u-joint completely went out and then made a horrible sound with shaking when i slowed down to make a turn and when i first took off in my jeep

Very good advice BWKJ. I would suggest getting some meaty Mud terrain tires. The howl of my Guard Dogs tires on the pavement is louder than the squeaks and wind noise. and if it is not, turn up the radio a little louder!

I hadn't considered the ujoint and you may be right. I'll check it out, i've seen some nasty ujoint failures. :dead:

HUGE GRIN ON MY FACE

Get some meaty MTs and you will not regret it!!!!! If you think the howling noise is annoying, try driving with MTs on your D.D. :ROTFL: :-)r
I'm so use to my MTs making a roaring noise, that sometimes I turn off my stereo, roll down all the windows, slide back the sunroof and enjoy the beautiful sound coming from my KM2s 8)
Relax....every Jeep has a mind of its own. Don't be surprised if your Jeep starts to lean toward one side...it's called the "Jeep Lean" :ROTFL: and the cure for that is either a clevis lift or extra rear isos in the back :jester:

Would you be suprised if I told you the person that gave you all that information was a woman?

:ROTFL: :-)r

I'm one of a few women LOST Jeepers on here...

Anyways, about those U-Joints...check the one that's in between your driveshaft and rear axle...and there's one up on the top end of the drive shaft....

Anything else...just ask!!! :JEEPIN:

Not surprised at all.
This has been a great resource. I spent at least 40 hours on this site before purchasing my crd. Because of the great information here i've had very few issues and love my rig. :D

Glad to know this site helped you in purchasing your Jeep

How about posting a picture of your CRD?

I never got back to you all on this. It was caused by the gap above the front glass. I used some screen door gasket( the round stuff) and glued it in the gap. No further sound.
