i have read forms on installing the rocker cover on jeep crd, nobody has yet mentioned that the cover doesn't sit flat on the head with just the line up bolts in the head, i have removed the cover twice now and the rockers look fine but putting it back on there seems to be a quarter inch rock from side to side, is this normal? also i should add that the rocker cover is not warped!! could the cams be touching the rockers? the timing pins are in place.

Since the cams are installed inside the rocker cover, and it is a 4 cylinder, if the cams were NOT touching the rockers, you would have much bigger problems at hand.

Thanks for the reply, I somehow assumed that the cams sitting at 90 degrees TDC , they wouldnt be touching the cams but of coarse, not thinking that its the pistons that are more relevant not to be close to the valves, makes sense!! so the rocker cover will touch a possible 4 or more rockers before cover is flat on the head. :D

Single cylinder engines, and some configurations of twin cylinder engines have certain specific spots within their crankshaft rotation where all valves are closed, but an inline 4 will always have some valves open to some degree, which means the cams will contact the rollers before the valve cover contacts the head.

With the crankshaft pinned at the proper spot, all 4 pistons will be 1/2 way through their stroke which leaves plenty of room for the valves to be opened when the valve cover is bolted down.
