I have a 2006 jeep 2.8l crd and I need a new shifter cable, the black plastic where the cable comes out of it's sheath has broken off. I can put it in 4 part-time , 4 full time and 4 low. problem is getting it to go back to 2x4. the cable now flexes to much due to the plastic won't support the cable and keep it from flexing, I have the np242 transfer case, will a cable from a 231 work with a bushing change?. the 231 cases are everywhere in repurposing yards (junk yards) . your experience and wisdom is appreciated. thx |

The cable is part of the shifter, well at least it was on my '02 KJ. Just need to find any KJ with the select trac t-case. |

I know the short throw of the shifter lever makes the cable length critical. that's why I was asking if the 231 shifter would operate the np242? |

looked at 16 jeep kj's in the salvage yard and none of them had the exact same end piece where the bushing goes on to the transfer case shifter. maybe it's because it is a crd but I doubt it. the early select matic's has a square end piece and mine is smaller and more like a banjo. i'm thinking I could use the older one with the right bushing if the length is the same. |
