I was thinking about getting in channel rain guards / wind deflectors or whatever you call them. The main purpose for this change (in my case) is an attempt to reduce the crazy amount of wind noise that I get at each front door going down the highway. The seals look good and there is no air movement on the inside. Can those who have installed these please describe any change in noise and identify if they are in channel or over the door style? |

Do you hear a leaking air noise coming from the seals at highway speeds or is it just a whistling from outside the vehicle that you can hear from inside? A leaking noise is not normal and means you either have shot seals, which you said LOOK good, or your regulator(s) (or regulator tracks, more specifically) might be on their way out. Lower the window down half way and grab the top part of the glass. Gently pull up and down and try to measure/estimate how much movement you get. If it is more than about 1/8" I'd say your tracks are shot. You can buy replacement Chinese garbage ones from RockAuto or your local parts store, but I HIGHLY recommend Steiger Performance replacements. They eliminate the cheap plastic parts that wear out prematurely with steel and/or nylon parts. You reuse your motor and cable-screw assembly since it works fine (if the window is currently moving) and basically never worry about it again. It can be a bit tough to figure out which kit to buy since it depends on your model year and build date and your drivers side door sticker (with the build date on it) is probably worn off from years of use like most KJ's. If you can't identify the build date you'll have to pray to the dealership gods and see if they bless you with a build sheet that has it. The factory build sheets available online do not list the build date for some reason. If you're just hearing whistling from outside the vehicle there might not be much you can do other than try some air deflectors and see if they work for you. It could also be coming from the trim around the top of the windshield or the air dam under the wipers. You can play around with painters tape to try to figure out where the whistle is coming from and make a more permanent repair once you find it. Good luck! http://www.steigerperformance.com/ |

Thanks for the detailed reply. There is no whistling. The noise is just a loud air rushing highway noise. This vehicle has the most window highway noise of any I have ever driven and it has begun to annoy me. Some manufacturers say they reduce window noise but I wanted to get some real input from the field. |

I've been driving CRD's for so long I don't even notice the road noise. I'm too used to listening to clunks and bangs!  I liked the deflectors I had on my last Jeep. I can't say that they reduced highway noise at all, but they were nice when it was raining because you can keep the windows cracked a couple inches and still get fresh air from outside while driving. They are also nice while camping for the same reason. |

I haven't really paid attention to that very much, and I don't usually drive with the windows down. With windows up, if there's a difference it's not enough for me to notice. With windows cracked, however it may be a little quieter, but my main objective is being able to have windows cracked without rain getting in, as that's pretty normal here, nine months of the year at least. They work great for that. |

I have no muffler and the off-road tires also make plenty of noise. I mentioned the deflectors to my dad to see if he had input and he said he was looking for a present for me, yay. We ordered them off Amazon. I will report back if it changes the noise. |

I just put the fronts on. I think it dropped the sound down 15-20%. Not as much as I had hoped. The front AVS in channels are actually in channel. Didn't look at the backs yet. |

The rears are "mostly" in-channel. The small section at the rear of them goes over the window divider. I doubt the rears would make wind noise quieter though, probably the opposite. |

I am going to bump noise reduction to 25% overall. It never gets 1/2 as loud when the wind is gusting hard. |
