Until now, I was unaware that a domestically sold 2006 KJ with 3,7L V6 could be had with a manual 5 speed. I have seen 4 bangers with the manual but not the V6. Is the CRD the only engine with no manual option?

outside of the USA you could get a CRD with a 6 speed manual, I have one. I suspect you can get manuals in the 3.7 as well. Maybe you need to look at what they have in Canada.

I'm aware of the offshore possibilities, but I'd never seen a domestic factory set up until this one. I'm guessing it's from a military person returning stateside, and managed to bring it along, but not sure.

Probably a 6speed and its a typo, or he doesn't use 1st gear (mostly redundant with stock tires and street driving).

No the 6 speed is correct in a manual. The XJ diesel was a 5 speed & a very strong box. The 6 speed is not as strong & I know of people replacing it with a 5 speed. The KJ CRD is torque limited to reduce gearbox failures.
