I feel like my 2006 KJ 3.7 is really underpowered. Especially feel it when driving up in the mountains when I go camping. I've also had sporadic problems with oil consumption. Sometimes I'll burn 4 quarts in a month. Sometimes it will take a couple of months to go through that much.

I started with a compression test. Here are the results:
1: 165
2: 150
3: 150
4: 180
5: 165
6: 165

They seem to be within a fair range. Can I rule out compression loss for weak power, and piston rings for oil consumption?

I do have some smoke coming out of the tailpipe when accelerating after a long light. Skipped doing a leak-down test and am assuming that I have leaky valve guide seals. Also, there is some oil on the line going from the PCV valve to the airbox, and some oil on the air filter. I'm replacing the PCV valve to see if that helps with oil consumption.

Any ideas where to look for loss of power issue next? Could a stuck PCV valve cause sluggishness? Maybe cats getting destroyed by the burning oil from the valve leaks?

(These might be dumb questions. I'm pretty good at fixing things that I know are broken, but my diagnostic skills are terrible. I'm just learning how these systems actually work.)

I assume that was a dry compression test? Did you also do a wet one?

I did not do a wet compression test.
